Obtaining the LNCS Template
Access the official Springer LNCS (Lecture Notes in Computer Science) template from the conference proceedings guidelines page at https://www.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-guidelines.
Scroll to the bottom of the page to find links for downloading both the LaTeX and Word template versions.
After downloading and extracting the archive, the template files can be opened in any compatible editor. For LaTeX, this guide uses Tex Studio.
LaTeX Template Structure Explained
Document Class Declaration
This command initializes the document using the llncs document class with the runningheads option enabled, which displays section titles and page numbers in the header.
\documentclass[runningheads]{llncs}
Essential Packages
These packages are included to ensure proper font encoding and to enable graphic inclusion.
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{graphicx}
Document Preamble and Title Section
The document content begins after the \begin{document} command. The title, author information, and institutional affiliations are defined here. The \maketitle command formats and prints the title block.
\begin{document}
\title{Paper Title}
\author{Primary Author\inst{1}\orcidID{0000-1111-2222-3333} \and Secondary Author\inst{2,3}\orcidID{1111-2222-3333-4444}}
\institute{University One, City, Country \and Institute Two, City, Country \email{contact@institute.org}}
\maketitle
Abstract and Keywords Section
The abstract provides a concise summary of the paper's content. Keywords are listed to indicate the main topics.
\begin{abstract}
This section should contain a 150 to 250-word summary of the paper's contributions and findings.
\keywords{Primary topic \and Secondary topic \and Additional keyword.}
\end{abstract}
Section Headings
Commands for creating hierarchical section headings to structure the document logically.
\section{Main Section}
\subsection{Example Subsection}
\subsubsection{Sample Third-Level Heading}
\paragraph{Fourth-Level Heading Example}
Incorporating Tables and Figures
Tables and figures are used to present data and illustrations. Their caption are placed above tables and below figures, respectively.
\begin{table}
\caption{Table titles are positioned above the table.}\label{sample-table}
\begin{tabular}{|l|l|l|}
\hline
Category & Example & Formatting\\
\hline
Title & {\Large\bfseries Title Text} & 14pt, bold\\
Section & {\large\bfseries 1 Section Name} & 12pt, bold\\
\hline
\end{tabular}
\end{table}
\begin{figure}
\includegraphics[width=\textwidth]{example-image.eps}
\caption{Figure captions are always placed below the image.} \label{sample-figure}
\end{figure}
Mathematical Expressions
LaTeX is well-suited for typesetting mathematical equations.
\begin{equation}
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
\end{equation}
The Word template document can be opened and edited directly in Microsoft Word or similar word processors.
