Why Is Hyper-V Missing in Windows 11 Home?

Microsoft intentionally excludes the Hyper-V feature package from the default Home edition insatllation to encourage upgrades to Pro. However, the necessary .mum (Package Manifest) files remain embedded in the system’s servicing store. By re-registering these files and enabling the feature via DISM, you can unlock full virtualization support—enabling WSL2, Docker Desktop, and Android Subsystem for Android (ASA).

Automated Script to Enable Hyper-V

Copy the following script into a text file and save it as enable-hyperv-home.bat. Right-click and select Run as administrator. The system will reboot automaticallly after activation.

Post-Activation Steps

1. Allow the system to reboot. Do not skip this step.
2. After reboot, press Win+R, type optionalfeatures, and hit Enter. You’ll now see "Hyper-V" listed among Windows features.
3. To disable Hyper-V later, replace the /enable-feature line in the script with: ``` dism /online /disable-feature /featurename:Microsoft-Hyper-V-All /norestart

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Verify Activation with PowerShell

Open PowerShell as Administrator and run:

Get-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Hyper-V

If the output shows State : Enabled, Hyper-V is fully operational.

After successful activation, proceed to install WSL2, Docker Desktop, or Android Subsystem for Android without restrictions.
