HackerGPT serves as a digital assistant tailored for cybersecurity professionals. This AI tool maintains an extensive knowledge base covering penetration testing methodologies, security tools, and defensive strategies. It functions as both an information resource and active participant in security analysis workflows, accommodating users renging from beginners learning fundamental concepts to experienced practitioners seeking advanced insights into evolving security challenges.
System Architecture
User queries route through secure servers where authentication verifies user status (free or premium tier) and manages query quotas. The system performs semantic matching against the internal knowledge repository, incorporating relevant matches into the AI processing pipeline. Queries then secure transmit to either Google or OpenAI infrastructure, with strict data isolation ensuring only current and pervious chat context transmits - no external metadata or user information accompanies requests. Response generation varies based on selected AI module:
- HackerGPT: Custom-tuned PaLM 2 implementation with semantic search capabilities across security data
- GPT-4 Turbo: OpenAI's latest model enhanced with specialized security-focused prompting
Local Development Setup
Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/Hacker-GPT/HackerGPT.git
Install project dependencies:
npm install
Configure environment variables by creating .env.local in the project root. Duplicate .env.local.example, rename the copy, and update configuration values. For PaLM 2 integration, modify these entries:
SECRET_PALM2_CHAT_BISON_API_KEY=YOUR_OPENROUTER_API_KEY
SECRET_PALM2_SYSTEM_PROMPT=YOUR_SYSTEM_PROMPT
Launch the development server:
npm run dev
The application becomes accessible for immediate interaction upon successful startup.
