Integrating zTree, CKEditor, and Captcha Generation in Java Web Applications

zTree Configuration

zTree is a jQuery-based tree component library that provides hierarchical data visualization for web interfaces. To integrate zTree into a project, download the distribution package and extract the css and js directories into your web application's asset folder.

The official zTree documentation provides numeerous working examples at http://www.treejs.cn/v3/demo.php. After downloading, locate the corresponding HTML demonstrations in the distribution to use as templates.

When integrating demo code, ensure all import paths resolve correctly. To verify a path in your IDE, hold Ctrl and hover over a href or src attribute—if the link becomes underlined, clicking it navigates directly to the referenced resource.

CKEditor Integration

CKEditor is a rich text editor that replaces standard HTML textarea elements. Obtain the distribution package from the official website, include the CKEditor folder in your project, and reference the main JavaScript file in your HTML.

The replacement occurs via the CKEDITOR.replace() method:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8">
    <title>Editor Demo</title>
    <script src="ckeditor/ckeditor.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
    <textarea id="editorContainer"></textarea>
    <script>
        CKEDITOR.replace('editorContainer');
    </script>
</body>
</html>

Adjust the script path if your directory structure differs. The result is a fully functional WYSIWYG editor replacing the plain textarea.

Generate Verification Images with ValidateCode

The ValidateCode.jar library creates captcha images for form validation. In a servlet, configure dimensions and generate the image stream:

package com.example.captcha;

import java.io.IOException;
import jakarta.servlet.ServletException;
import jakarta.servlet.annotation.WebServlet;
import jakarta.servlet.http.HttpServlet;
import jakarta.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
import jakarta.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse;
import cn.dsna.util.images.ValidateCode;

@WebServlet("/captcha")
public class CaptchaServlet extends HttpServlet {

    private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;

    public CaptchaServlet() {
        super();
    }

    @Override
    protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
            throws ServletException, IOException {

        ValidateCode generator = new ValidateCode(140, 45, 5, 20);
        generator.write(response.getOutputStream());

        String sessionKey = generator.getCode();
        request.getSession().setAttribute("captchaToken", sessionKey);
    }

    @Override
    protected void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
            throws ServletException, IOException {
        doGet(request, response);
    }
}

The constructor accepts four parameters: width in pixels, height in pixels, character count, and noise line count. The write() method outputs the image directly to the response stream.

In the corresponding JSP page, reference the captcha endpoint:

<%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8"%>
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8">
    <title>Verification Demo</title>
</head>
<body>
    <div style="text-align: center;">
        <img src="captcha" alt="Captcha">
    </div>
</body>
</html>

The generated image displays as a clickable refreshable verification code. Store the returned code in the session and compare it against user input during form submission to validate authenticity.

Key Implementation Notes

For production environments, place third-party libraries in the WEB-INF/lib directory. Ensure servlet mappings correspond to URL patterns defined in your deployment descriptor or annotations. When debugging path isssues, the browser's developer console typical displays 404 errors for missing resources, while IDE navigation confirms source file availability.
