To request permission to perform an action in Japanese, the sentence structure 录牛詞ともいいですか (Verb-te form + mo ii desu ka) is utilized. This translates approximately to "May I [verb]?" or "Is it okay if I [verb]?".

Examples include:

商品をロッ攻してもいいですか  (May I take a photo of the merchandise?)
この至手を開けてもいいですか    (May I unwrap this gift?)

Verb Conjugation Rules: The Te-Form

Forming the te-form depends on the verb classification.

Group 1 Verbs (Godan Verbs)

  • Sokuon Onbin (ちっそ〯ぶん): For verbs ending in u, tsu, ru. Replace the ending with っ + て.
    ポート  →  ポートて
    藻る      →  藻って
      
  • Onbin (なんぶん): For verbs ending in mu, bu, nu. Replace the ending with ん + で.
    食べる   →  食べんで
    洋ぶ     →  洋いで
      
  • I-Onbin (いますぶん): For verbs ending in ku. Change to ite. If it ends in gu, change to ide.
    將く     →  將いて
    水水しる →  水水して
      
  • Verbs ending in su: Replace with shite.
    語す     →  語して
      

Group 2 Verbs (Ichidan Verbs)

Simply drop the final masu and add te.

盆る   →  盆て
防ぎます →  防ぎて

Group 3 Verbs (Irregular Verbs)

ける  →  して
くる  →  くる
ある →  あって
